PRESENTATION OF PROGRAM

The Postgraduate Program is linked to the Department of Obstetrics, Federal University of São Paulo - Escola Paulista de Medicina, offering Masters and PhD courses since 1979. It has links with the area of Medicine III CAPES, under registration 33009015013P9, now CAPES concept 4.

It is the only program of postgraduate in focused solely on Obstetrics and believes that the specialty is of key strategic importance. The expansion of knowledge on maternal health and fetal implies concrete possibilities to contribute to the quality of life in broad perspective. We have as objective the training of qualified technically and scientifically to carry out teaching and research on the processes involved in the specialty of Obstetrics.

The Master aims to deepen the professional knowledge, promote scientific competence, enhance teaching and enable the development of the ability to perform research in the area. The course aims to develop doctoral teaching, but mainly expand the skills to conduct independent research in Obstetrics and original. The training of doctors is seen as a key strategy to accelerate the development of the country and as a consequence, the quality of life of Brazilians.

The program seeks to consolidate a few fundamental principles:

- Provide quality in teaching, scientific research and technologic;
- Seek continual updating curriculum with flexibility to meet the diverse development of Obstetrics;
- Developing lines of research aimed at training researchers in the field of excellence;
- Integrating medical and graduate students in related areas of undergraduate research projects in order to identify potential talents for research;
- Maintenance of facilities, technological resources, as well as technical and administrative support and other resources needed to research activity, including fundraising for its funding;
- Establishment of cooperation with national and international institutions;
- Promote the dissemination of research conducted on vehicles with academic impact;
- Dissemination of knowledge gained from research in the scientific community nationally and internationally, to contribute to the demands of the country and contribute to the scientific production reaches heights increasingly significant on the world stage.

We hope your visit to our site provides an objective view of our work and that can be challenging to direct his career.

RESEARCH AREAS

1 - MORPHOLOGICAL AND METABOLIC EFFECTS OF DRUGS AND OTHER SUBSTANCES IN PREGNANCY.
Through bioassay using morphological macroscopic optical microscopy, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy study seeks action of drugs or other substances on different organs maternal placenta and the fetus.

2 - PSYCHOSOCIAL ASPECTS RELATED TO PREGNANCY
Study psychosocial aspects inherent to womanhood throughout this stage of their reproductive lives and their interfaces with social, occupational, family and marriage, apart from possible personal conflicts related.

3 - CLINICAL AND METABOLIC EFFECTS OF CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS
Develops clinical and laboratory research related to the use of contraceptive methods, evaluating their effectiveness and side effects. In the lab seeks to identify metabolic repercussions resulting from their use in various periods of exposure.

4 - LABORATORY ASPECTS INVOLVED IN INTERACTION MATERNAL FETAL AND ITS RELATIONS WITH PATHOLOGIES OBSTETRIC.
Study factors that affect trophoblastic invasion and biomarkers resulting from this process using techniques of molecular and cell biology.  Study genetic polymorphisms and expression of mediators of the inflammatory response and cell cycle life at different stages of pregnancy and childbirth.

5 - EPIDEMIOLOGICAL, CLINICAL AND THERAPEUTIC AND CONDITIONS OBSTETRIC PERINATAL.
Study aspects related to pathogenesis, epidemiology, treatment and prognosis of intercurrent conditions in pregnancy and childbirth and its impact on reproductive success. Searching the development of interventions that can contribute to the promotion of health in population affected.

6 - TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN PRACTICE OBSTETRICAL.
Study the impact of clinical interventions, technology and new diagnostic tests for deepening the maternal and perinatal safety.

7 - BIOCHEMISTRY AND BIOPHYSICS ANALYSIS OF INTERACTION MATERNAL FETAL AND REPERCUSSIONS ON REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH IN FETAL AND WOMEN.
Using biophysical methods as ultrasound, Doppler and cardiotocography alone or associated with biomarkers, study maternal and fetal structures and adaptive mechanisms of pregnancy, normal standards and abnormalities in this process.
